Music is unique as it is one of a select few mediums that allow its listeners to experiences a variety of feelings and emotions. Yet it is unique as each individual listener will create their own individual mindset to go along with each song they enjoy. Essentially the same song for one person usually means something completely different for someone else, and this is what my show will be about.
The shows name will be Formal Riot, named after the fictional band which the show follows. Each hour long episode will open with the band playing a new song, individualized for each episode. It will then flash back to the various experiences and dramas which lead to the creation of the song, with the episode ending once again with the song being played. The repetition of the same song will then be nullified as the second time around, they will interpret the song differently as they had now witnessed its creation over the past hour.
The band itself will be a four piece rock band with occasional cameos by other minor characters for more ska punk songs. Each of the four core members will all tend to focus on one emotion per song, and its through their combined experiences that the song will be made. From petty high school dramas, to current political dramas (it is punk after all) each song will tackle a different theme that may not be evident on first listen.
Trent, the lead singer, will start the series as a bit of an outcast loser however he embraces this, "while 95% of the world is laughing at me cuz Im different, I'm laughing at them because their all the same" Similarly he is just overcoming the suicide of his older sister, which will be a theme for most of his song writings. As the band gets more popular however, his lyrics will slowly move from personal problems to larger issues, this is largely due to the influence of Drummer player Duncan.
Duncan, is the angry member of the group. Living on his own at sixteen, his character is the one who will want things to be kept real as the group rises in popularity. His brash nature, and tendency to over do himself will cause friction for the band at first, however as he starts to take the band seriously, his crazy antics will start to mellow a little bit, yet his intensity will remain constant in his music and political stances.
Cody on Bass is the rich kid. His struggles mainly involve seeking attention from his parents as well as bulling in school. While his songs may not lack the emotive depth of the other characters his character is vital as he essentially funds the band as they initially begin to record. At the start of the season there will be friction between him and Duncan, as Cody is seen to be out of place in teh punk scene, however Cody will slowly win him over.
The last of the main Characters is Guitarist Matt, he is the party boy and lover, yet when the two mix, things don't end well. Always out for a good time, his heart usually gets broken, by the same girl, yet a happy go lucky attitude, sometimes with a bitter twist, and Matt will eventually land on his feet. He is the one who helps Trent the most when his sister kills herself in the pilot episode.
I can see the first season of this show running for twelve episodes, for the twelve songs to be recorded onto the CD. If good money is spent on musical talent as well the soundtrack could be another large hit which would make more money for our lovely backers. the show can progress to further seasons as well with the band going on its first tours. It is a unique concept, and one that could become quite popular if done correctly. This isnt a kids show, it is a real drama, one that will be gritty and dark at times, but one which should appeal to those who want a show about punk rock, or any rock for that manner.
Yay 1 in teh morning writings to put off homework writing.
I hope this isnt ripping of glee, I know that is high school and songs but to be honest Ive never seen an episode so I dont know if they do this same thing.
