Character Name: Benjamin Cooper
Age: 30 yeas old
Date of Birth: November 14, 1980
Residence: New York
Profession: Detective
Appearance: Cooper stands at five feet eleven inches, which is a surprise since he was always smaller as a kid. He is of average weight and is quite muscular. His hair is a very deep brown and almost appears black. He has deep brown eyes which can either seem a chocolate brown or a deep black depending on the lighting and his mood. Most the time he is mostly clean shaven but may have a little stubble on his face depending on how hard he'd been working and how much time he had given himself to take care of himself. Though he never has "real" facial hair, mainly because that's the way his father had it. His hair is mostly styled in spikes and he is very obsessive about it staying perfect.
He likes to wear nicer cloths, such as dress pants and at least a button up shirt with maybe a tie, though being a cop has taught him it’s not always good to have a tie at a crime scene, and sometimes a blazer. At the same time he likes to be comfortable and when working long hours he will trade his normally fancier cloths for a tee-shirt and maybe jeans, though the jeans are normally black to look a little better than blue jeans. One thing he will never wear, though, is a hat or any colors seen as girl colors.
Personality: Benjamin Cooper is a very like able guy. He gets along with everyone and is one of the nicest people you will meet, as long as you are on the right side of the law. At the same time he is very determined and spends most his time working or doing something, he's not the kind of guy that can just sit back and do nothing he always has to be moving. When it comes to victims of crimes he is very nice and kind, trying to help out as best he can. While at the same time he will bit the head off the scum bag that hurt anyone, especially when it comes to child abuse. When it comes to his work he has to do it right and will continue well into the night until he gets it just perfect. Cooper has been known to criticize other people's work and even re-do it after they finish to make it up to his standards. When he doesn't get things just right or has nothing to do or anything else that can be linked to his OCPD he can have a major anxiety or panic attack and has been known to check out and even became a little violent depending on how bad the attack was.
Other personality trait that he had linked to his Obsessive–compulsive personality disorder (OCPD), other than being a perfectionist and needed to have something to do, is his strong sense of right and wrong, though sadly over time his sense of right has been warped into making him think that it is okay for him to murder the criminals that the justice system let get away. This however does make him a very good cop as he almost needs people to follow the laws and rules which he for sees as right and needing to be followed. He also needs order and organization, which can also been attributed by his OCD. He keeps his house and work space unnaturally clean and hates if something gets out of order. He also makes lists for everything as well as schedules and needs to keep to them, if he is forced to differ from his schedule he feels extremely uncomfortable and can't be as attentive to details and his work as he normally is. It is a very bad idea to do such on purpose because it can cause a massive panic attack. It is also a bad idea to fight what he things as moral and right, or to purposely mess up his work area. He had learned to accept disordered outside his control, but that doesn't mean he can handle it in general.
History: Benjamin was born in New York, New York to Samuel and Hellen Cooper. He wasn't their first child though. Hellen had become pregnant a year before she had Ben, but at six months she went into per term labor, but the small girl didn't make it. The couple never named the child, and buried her with little hope or want to have another child. However a few months later Hellen become pregnant. The couple tossed around the idea of abortion not wanting to go through the same pain they did before, which sent Hellen into a deep depression she would care with her the rest of her life, but in the end they decided that they couldn't end yet another life and went on with the pregnancy. For the rest of the term things went smoothly, though because of the loss of her previous child the doctors did a planned C-section and on November 14 Ben was brought into the world.
Hellen stayed home with her new son for only one month before going back to work as a journalist with the New York Times. Likewise Samuel continued to work as a real estate agent and was rarely home that often and never even held the new-born boy. And though the family had enough money they declined getting a stay at home nanny and instead they would either hired a neighborhood kid to watch the baby or drop him off at an all day day-care where he would stay until one of them got off work which was normally wasn't until at least six at night. A few times child services were called in, and though both parents didn't really care if they took away their son, having never really allowed themselves to connect to him, the social workers never found reason enough to take him away and he ended up being stuck with the two.
As he got older the mess in the house became bigger as he'd play with his toys and wouldn't pick them up, like all toddlers. This started to really annoy Hellen who soon began to yell and even hit the young boy when he didn't clean up after himself. This quickly made him learn to put his stuff away, in fear that she would hurt him more. This fear grew with age and soon even more things set his mother off and the beatings got worse. Once when he was 8 years old Hellen was forced to take him to work because he had forgotten to tell her he had the day off of school so there was no one to watch him. While she worked Benjamin decided to ride up and down in the elevator. When his mom found out he had disobeyed orders and not stayed in the break room she was enraged even worse than she had ever been before for. She found him in the elevator and behind its closed doors began to beat him worse than she had ever had before. Once she was done she let him there curled up on the floor crying. He stayed like this for five minutes stopped at a random floor. When he was finally ready to leave he pressed the open button but nothing happened. He began to press every button calling for help, but nothing worked. In his beating the elevator had been damaged just enough to get it stuck. After five minutes of nothing happening the thing began to free fall ten floors before it caught and stopped. Luckily people had realized what was going on and sent help. Because he was a small boy they were able to pry the doors open a foot or two and pull him out. He was scared stiff and didn't say a word or do anything for hours after that. And ever since then he has been deadly afraid of elevators and heights, not even going near either one.
In school he had shown promise but at the same time he wasn't the smartest kid in the class. More than anything he was quiet and stayed to himself. Though he was able to hide the pain he felt from the beatings and for the most part no one noticed that he was beaten almost daily and the teachers that did noticed just pushed it off because he seemed happy, though quiet. That all changed after the elevator though, and the sadness was easily seen. Teachers began to ask and one even called the cops which went over to his house and started asking questions. Of course Hellen and Samuel were able to talk their way out of it, and the cops left. This moment enraged Hellen again and she took the boy to the bath tub where she half drowned him for being stupid. After that Benjamin decided it was safer not to let anyone know what was going on. He went back to school with a smile on his face and actually tried to make friends. He had a good personality and thus got along with just about everyone. When he went into middle school he's main friend group, though, was with the outcasts, people that he found he could connect with very well because they had been shunned and disliked by their peers, just like he had been with his parents.
Ben was quickly diagnosed in sixth grade with OCD and it got worse as time went on. At first he just needed order in his home, knowing he would get beaten if he left things out of their place, but as school went on he began to need that order in his everyday life. Many times he would spend his lunch in his class rooms organizing and keeping clean in fear that he might be beaten if it wasn't. This caused many of the students to laugh at him and by the end of his middle school days he had lost all his friends because they were afraid to be seen with such an odd person. His freshman year of high school was spent much the same, and he found himself with little friends. But that all changed in tenth grade when the school's psychology teacher noticed him and began doing daily talks with him which helped him manage his OCD to the point where he didn't need to organize every room he went into, just his own stuff as long as the mess wasn't that bad. With his disorder under control he began to regain his confidence in making friends again and soon was one of the coolest guys in school. He had always had good looks and girls began to notice this and he even began to play sports and got on the Football team and by the time he was a Senior he had been voted the prom king and most likely to be famous.
On the outside of school his life was still extremely miserable and he never had people over at his house afraid of upsetting his mom. When at home his confidence went down and he became a scared puppy hiding in the corner, making sure the house was spotless before his parents got home then hiding away in his room eating nothing for diner because at this point his parents had stopped caring to make anything for him. When he graduated High school he went to college on his own dim. And though he was finally free of his parent’s house he wasn't free of them. His dad started to take an interest in him for the first time in his life, but not in a good way. He became hostel with his son calling him daily to tell him to get a good job to repay them for all they had given him in his life. Ben, who as soon as getting in college had decided to go by Cooper instead because the painful memories his name brought him, took the verbal abuse of both parents for a year, but when he went home for the summer, what Samuel demanded he do, he couldn't take it any longer. And a month after going home while she and his family were in the car, which Samuel was driving, Cooper forced them off the road into a lake. The car began to sink and Cooper made sure to lock all the doors so none of them could get out. He was ready to die as long as he took them with him. Luckily in the crash Samuel had been knocked unconscious and thus couldn't fight back as his own son killed him and his wife. Cooper was inches from death when one of the windows was shattered and he was forced to the surface.
Someone had seen the car go into the water and after calling 911 had jumped into save them. Lucky for Cooper nether his mother or father survived, though he did. He told the police that his father had been really tired and lost control of the car and that's why they went into the water. Ben was cleared of all crimes and went back to school. It was then that he began to form a slight case of OCPD (Obsessive–compulsive personality disorder) which involves an obsession with perfection, rules, and organization. People with OCPD may feel anxious when they perceive that things are not right. Though it never really developed too strongly it did cause him to first start to want to be a cop. So after getting his bachelor’s degree he went into the police academy and soon became a beat cop. Over time he watched hundreds of guilt people go free because the system failed, like it failed him. This began to build on his OCPD and after two years he was called to a home for disturbance and found all the signs of child abuse, however there was nothing they could do to help the kids. This pushed him over the edge and later that night once he was off duty he went back to the house and Murdered the abusive father. No one looked twice at the murder and Cooper wasn't even pinged as a suspect. He went on his life like nothing happened.
However his sense of right and wrong was starting to become warped, with his OCPD he began to see murder as almost a good thing and months after the murder of the abusive dad he found himself in another situation where a drug dealer and child killer had gotten away and needed to kill him. This time he began to develop a strategy, knowing that to get away with murder he had to do it right, he had been lucky the first two times. He bought a gun on the black market and started long distance killing. He did this for a year only killing a couple times, both high level criminals that got away. He soon found he didn't like the long distance kills and on his next kill he, still using the gun, he got closer, close enough for them to see him and him to see them. This worked better for him and he began to kill like this. Again no one even batted an eye at the deaths and no one even thought Cooper could be a suspect. Like in high school he was a charmer and everyone liked him. He did his job good and caught a lot of guys, so why would he kill others.
After five years as a beat cop Cooper was promoted to detective and he became one of the best detectives in New York. It was here that he started to develop a new MO. He still liked the gun but he began to fall in love with in sighting fear on his victims, like his mother did with him. And though he hadn't even been a detective for a year yet he has already formed a new MO hat works very good with him. He will lure his victims in with whatever ruse they need to get them there, having access to their case files helps with this. Then he takes them to a cabin he owns just outside of the city where he will threaten to kill and make them hurt themselves in various ways, though he wouldn't torture them, not like his parents did him. He them shoots them and depending on their crimes give them a long death or quick one. He then buries the bodies out in the woods, a different place each time. And though his victims can be old to young, no younger than fifteen though, female or male of any sex he does keep to criminals of mostly very bad crimes. Though because he does have a very warped sense of right and wrong he has been knew to kill someone who wasn't a "criminal" by law but did something Cooper things is wrong, such as hurting a child, even if it’s one time. The lesson here is “don't punish your kids while he's around.”
